Spanish American War
Veterans
The Spanish American War was a limited battle
lasting only 10 weeks in 1898: But from 1892 until 1899, the controversy
and negotiations between Nations continued.
Here is a Time-Line
The Indexes and photographed Headstones of the
inhabitants of our
San Luis Obispo County Cemeteries
has given us a way
to create a Memorial Website for the Spanish American War Veterans who
came to San Luis Obispo and who passed away here.
There is an
Organization
dedicated to locating and recording S A W Veteran burials. When their
Web Site was found and it was noted that not one SLO SAW Veteran was
listed, it was decided to take on a new project: SLO SAW Veteran
Burials.
Three of our SLOCGS Genealogical Library Staff
participated in locating the burials from the Cemetery Indexes:
Joyce Bayless, Martha A Crosley Graham and
Mary Hansen
Mary’s great grandfather is Albert Piercy 1876-1935. He is interred in the Pine Mountain Cemetery.
“I knew he was a Spanish War vet from family lore. I found him in the Philippines in the census during the war.” [Nueva Caceres, Philippine Islands, Military and Naval Forces, 1900 Census]
